Whataburger, Twisted Kitchen: Places Open, Coming Soon In Cobb

COBB COUNTY, GA — At least 19 businesses and restaurants have opened or announced future openings across Cobb County over the last several months, including Twisted Kitchen, Whataburger, MOOYAH Burgers and plenty of others.

Take a look at Patch’s roundup of business openings and coming-soon announcements, listed in alphabetical order:

East Cobb

101 Bagel Cafe – The Brooklyn-style bagel shop is set to open another Cobb County location by September, according to the restaurant’s website, this time at 4811 Lower Roswell Road. 101 Bagel Cafe makes its bagels fresh daily, and also offers wraps, hash brown bowls, deli sandwiches, egg sandwiches, salads, soups and more.

Twisted Taco Express – The fast-casual Tex-Mex restaurant opened at 2960 Shallowford Road, Suite 303 in Marietta in early June, according to the restaurant’s Facebook page. The Marietta/East Cobb location debuted the restaurant’s to-go concept, but still features the traditional menu with the option to have your order “twisted,” which means it’ll be topped with queso, cilantro and salsa for an additional cost.


Food Terminal – The newest location of Food Terminal is expected to open in Barrett Pavilion by early 2022, Tomorrow’s News Today Atlanta (ToNeTo Atlanta) first reported. The owners aim to open the Kennesaw restaurant, formerly a Joe’s Crab Shack location, by early 2022. Food Terminal offers Malaysian cuisine and street-style fare.

Whataburger – The popular Texas fast-food chain revealed plans to open in the former O’Charley’s Kennesaw location at 705 Townpark Lane, and hope to open in 2022, Patch previously reported. This will be the chain’s first location in metro Atlanta, joining one other Georgia Whataburger, located in Thomasville.

Zama Mexican Cuisine & Margarita Bar – The owner of the Mexican restaurant, Juan Carlos Velasquez, leased the former Rafferty’s Restaurant & Bar space at 2501 Cobb Place Lane, ToNeTo Atlanta first reported. The 6,500-square-foot space will be the biggest Zama spot to date, with plans to open by late November.


MOOYAH Burgers, Fries & Shakes – The first Georgia location of MOOYAH will open in early November 2021 at 1400 Veterans Memorial Highway SE, Suite 140 in Mableton, according to a news release. The Mableton location will feature the brand’s new prototype with new dining zones, a grab-and-go bottled beverage fridge and to-go shelving.

Local couple Keylan and Erika Mitchell will own and operate the new spot. They’re hoping to expand to up to five locations within the next five years, the couple told Patch. Everything is made-to-order with options to customize the burger, artisan buns baked in-house daily and “the best fries anywhere,” the Mitchells said. When it opens, they recommend the MOOYAH Double Cheeseburger with bacon.


Chicken Salad ChickChicken Salad Chick held a ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony Aug. 18 for its new location at 3805 Dallas Highway in Marietta. The restaurant offers 12 flavors of chicken salad made by hand daily (in sandwich form and a la carte), as well as soups, sides and desserts. Chicken salad flavors include Classic Carol, Barbie-Q, Cranberry Kelli, Buffalo Barclay and more.

CIMA Taqueria – Atlanta restaurateur John Gibney is set to open a 2,000-square-foot casual Mexican restaurant this fall at The Avenue West Cobb, featuring homemade tortillas, margaritas and an extensive tequila list, according to the CIMA website.

CRU Lounge – CRU Lounge is expected to open five new locations in Georgia this year, including one at 3000 Windy Hill Road SE in Marietta. Specifics were not available as of publication, but the hemp and hookah lounge is expected to open in the next two months.

Elizabeth’s Delightful Edibles – Personal chef Elizabeth Weaver, born and raised in Marietta, will open a chocolate and sweets shop at 3894 Due West Road, Suite 235 by fall 2021, according to the shop’s Facebook page. The shop will specialize in handcrafted chocolate sweets, including hot chocolate and coffee creamer “bombs.”

Gibney’s Tavern – Gibney, who is also opening CIMA Taqueria, will open the 4,000-square-foot tavern this fall at The Avenue West Cobb, featuring a bar and grill menu, beer, wine and bourbon, according to a news release. There will also be an indoor/outdoor area with darts, cornhole, Jenga and lawn checkers.

Hamp and Harry’s – Scott McCray and Scott Kerns, partners in McCray’s Tavern, purchased the former Bramble Bar & Kitchen, located at 168 Roswell St. at the Marietta Square, earlier this year and plan to turn it into a craft bar and kitchen called Hamp and Harry’s. Set to open this fall, the restaurant’s name is an homage to the business partners’s middle names: Hampton and Harrison, respectively, The Marietta Daily Journal reported.

Knuckies Pizza and Hoagies – The sub sandwich and pizza restaurant will open a location — without the pizzas — in Marietta this fall, according to its Instagram page, but an exact address was not provided. The restaurant offers more than 21 different hoagies, including the Georgia Bob’s famous chicken salad hoagie; the pressed Cuban, which is a new item; the blazin’ chicken bacon ranch hoagie; and the classic ovengold turkey and Swiss hoagie.

Sessions Street coffee roastery and restaurant – Marietta City Council approved a rezoning request for the 1.13-acre Sessions Street property so it can be turned into a restaurant and coffee roastery for the existing Rev Coffee Roasters in Smyrna, Patch previously reported.

The Marietta roastery will just be for production and storage, and owners Jenn and Nick Bimmerle plan to turn one of the lot’s vacant warehouses into a restaurant operated by Micah and Katie Pfister, who owned the recently-closed The Butcher The Baker on Marietta Square. The Pfisters already operate the coffee and pastry shop Sessions Stand across from the warehouse, and they plan to bring that concept into the larger warehouse space.

Powder Springs

1738 Restaurant and Bar – 1738 Restaurant and Bar is set to open at 5780 C.H. James Parkway this fall, focusing on Nigerian fare as well as American dishes such as mac and cheese, chicken fingers and french fries, according to What Now Atlanta, plus all-day breakfast and cocktails. Georgia business records show owner Silaiman Adewojo registered the restaurant with the state June 1.


Jeremiah’s Italian Ice – Orlando-based Jeremiah’s Italian Ice will open a location at 4585 S. Cobb Drive, Suite 600 in Smyrna in late August, according to the website. The 1,090-square-foot location will have a drive-thru, walk-up windows and indoor and outdoor seating options. Jeremiah’s is known for offering more than 40 flavors of Italian ice and soft ice cream.

Twisted Kitchen – Twisted Kitchen was expected to open its Smyrna location — the third in metro Atlanta — in mid-July, but recently announced a September opening date. Located at 4030 East-West Connector, the fast-casual restaurant is known for offering its customers a chance to create their own dishes, or choose from one of the “twisted” suggestions.


EVEN Hotel – Located at 3380 Overton Park Drive, Atlanta, the wellness-themed hotel opened in the Cumberland area June 2, according to a news release. The EVEN Hotel brand, launched in 2012, is aimed at encouraging wellness, exercise and healthy eating, even while traveling. Guests will find fitness equipment in their rooms (think exercise balls and resistance bands), and the in-house restaurant and bar each offer healthy menu options and drinks with fewer than 100 calories.

Mac McGee Pubs – The Roswell-based Irish pub is set to open a 3,700-square-foot location at The Battery Atlanta this fall, located at 800 Battery Avenue SE, restaurant officials told Patch. The restaurant will offer made-from-scratch traditional pub fare, including bangers and mash, fish and chips, and shepherd’s pie — plus American favorites such as burgers, fried chicken and Philly cheesesteaks.
