Starbucks plans to expand its personal reusable cup policy to the drive-thru and mobile order channel, at any U.S. store, by the end of 2023.
The brand has allowed customers to order with personal reusable cups within stores since 1985 and the expansion is viewed as a way for the company to move forward on sustainability goals, according to a CNBC report. The brand offers a 10-cent savings for customers using a personal cup.
The news comes at a time when consumers are increasingly focused on patronizing brands with strong sustainability practices and policies and also when mobile order continues to gain traction.
Starbucks uses an estimated 7 billion disposable cups every year, according to the news report.
In the spring of 2022 it announced it was committed to having all its U.S. stores allow reusable cups by the end of 2023, as FastCasual reported.
