Today’s tech stacks are savvier and more intuitive than ever, but they’re also more complex than they were five years ago.
Savneet Singh, president and CEO of PAR Technology and Marlon Koch, co-founder and CPO of MENU Technologies, spoke in a podcast about today’s modern tech stacks and unified commerce in a podcast hosted Networld Media Group and sponsored by MENU, an omnichannel e-commerce platform for restaurant brands.
Tech stacks are “more robust because the demands of the end customer have changed,” Singh said. “Those of us who frequent restaurants now expect our restaurants to still be the same look, feel and experience I have when I go into the restaurant, but I also expect my restaurant to be Amazon.com. I want my restaurant to have delivery, I want my restaurant to have curbside pickup, I want to track a delivery order. I want to be able to order on my phone, online, get loyalty points, all without having one ounce of change in the physical store, and that’s a lot for a restaurant.”
Singh said they systems were not built to work with one another, and that’s made tech more complicated for the restaurant. “I think our goal is to help connect the systems so that they can take back control,” he added.
Koch said expectations of consumers are now much higher. Before, it used to be easy for restaurants when they had a single channel to connect with customers — the POS system. “Now you have a mobile application, a web application, you have kiosks, all these third-party aggregators that you have to connect to.”
